What the heck am I going to do woth myself?! (Career Choice)

So, I guess you could say that I was like every other high school student, not really thinking about what I wanted to do with the rest of my life. Just living in the moment. Then, Senior year hit me, and when I say 'hit me' I really mean 'slapped me in the face like a ton of bricks in a pillow case, crushing reality in my brain.' WHAT THE HECK WAS I GOING TO DO WITH MYSELF?! I literally made a list of things I enjoyed doing inside and outside of school to get ideas. It seemed like 90% of the things on my list were music related. I LOVE MUSIC! I think I was in every choir and band at some point in my high school career. So, I guess it just seemed pretty clear to me that I should focus on a music career, become a music teacher of some sort. The more I thought about it, the more I began to worry because I thought about all the schools cutting their music programs. Plus, every school around here (which is where I would like to stay) had young/new music teacher and were set for years to come. So, once again, back to my list. Then, I came across math. Math, what can I do with math? I decided that I liked banking and things of that nature. (Or at least I think I do??) I guess that's when I decided to major in financial services. Now I'm not really sure opportunities I really have with financial services, but I'm guessing I can do a lot of different things with it. If anyone actually knows, or has ideas, I would LOVE to hear about them.

  2. Hey there Kristi. I am going into an accounting major. I find accounting very interesting and decided that is what I want to do after high school. I too was just living life in the moment and not worrying about my career. I made many mistakes by doing that such as learning bad habits in high school and not trying my hardest so I would let my grades slip. I regret much of that back in high school but now I am more determined than ever to increase my knowledge and become the best I can be. I chose my career as an accountant because I took a high school course and it seemed fun. I enjoyed being there and I found it easy. Also, I am not going to lie, the salary also caught my attention. I know you are supposed to get a job that you enjoy but I feel like, unless it is absolutely terrible, as long as you are getting paid a fair salary then job is worth it. I also like to learn new things and with accounting and college I find myself able to learn many new things and to better advance my knowledge. I am fortunate enough to be able to afford going to college and hope one day to help my family out and to advance in my life.

  3. !!! I am so glad that someone else is going into accounting! Austin, I also had the problem with not trying my hardest my fisrt few years in high school! I did NOT, however, take any sort of accounting class untill...well...last week (haha) I guess I just decided to go into financial services because I liked math and was able to do it well. I also agree about the salary catching my eye! I hope that maybe we can talk if I have any sort of problem with accounting? I would really appreciate it! It's nice to have someone to talk to about a subject other than a professor!
Karie, you are absolutely right about math and money is always going to be something tat the world needs. That was another major factor in making my decision about my major. Like I said, I originally wanted to do something that involved music, but I feel like the need for teachers is just at a minimum now with all the schools around cutting their music programs. I do notknow why they are doingt that. I think it is important for everone to learn at aleast basic music. I feel like maybe in the future I might go into some sort of music program at a different college. Maybe minor in performance or something? I do not really know, but I do know that I will never stop loving it! Either way, I just want to be sucessful in life! Wish me luck!
