Career Choice #3 -My Bakery

So, yet again, I have changed what I want to do with the rest of my life. This is something completely different than the other things I have said, but I have always wanted to do it, but put it to the back of my mind until now. I want to open a bakery. Yes, a bakery. Sounds completely dumb considering I am going to college for financial services, and want to be a musician too. Baking has always been a hobby of mine, though. I love to bake! I especially love to bake with my friends. My one friend, Lindsey, and I want to open a bakery some day. We have actually been talking about it for a very long time. She is currently going to ONU for, oh gosh I forget, I think something medical??? Anyway, she wanted to go to culinary school, but her mom wanted her to get this degree done first. She will go to culinary school, and I am going for finance, so we have all we need, right? (haha) Seriously though, this will happen someday. Someday. I can just imagine the inside. It’s probably going be all bright colors. I love all of the bright pinks and purples, and Lindsey likes the bright greens and oranges. It’s going to be ONE. BRIGHT. BAKERY! I can’t wait, I am so excited! I feel like this is something that I would love doing everyday and it wouldn’t get boring because we could make all different kinds of baked goods. I am super excited!!

  1. Kristi,I think opening up a bakery is a wonderful idea. I can already picture the inside or your bakery and walking inside and being greeted by a cheeful, inergetic, outgoing person like you. If I walked into a busniness and saw that kind of cheerfulness I would definitely pass the word around about your company. I love walking into bakery's and smelling freshly baked goods. When my friend and I took business trips to Indiana and Texas we would go to one every morning. It's not something I do any more only because of "personal reasons" but I know people do go crazy for the baked good stuff. I would say though that you have alot of management, finance, and all that good stuff to take into consideration, but I know you can do it.
Just like you I love to cook. I always dreamed about going to culinary school also when I was about your age but never did. I have people tell me how they love my cooking. The only thing is though, im not much of a sweet tooth kinda lady that likes to make deserts. I am more of a entree kinda person. I bet though that you wouldn't even have to take culinary school just to start a bakery business up, but I dont know for sure.
Well I wish you lots and lots of luck and great sucess on your dream. You keep excited abut this, and I know you wouldn't get bored with doing it, and it will happen. I believe you can do this( I know you can). I believe you will exceed all your expectations and this dream will come true. ( I know you will succeed)

  2. Oh dear Kristi lol. I know that if I ever went to your bakery I would only see smiles on your employes faces. Everything would be bright and all bubbly. You would probably have like rainbows and unicorns.ha joke. I do think it is sweet that you have a friend that will do it with you. It is always to have someone to lean on when you are putting yourself down. The only thing I have to say is watch out. I know a lot of people that start businesses together and it never works out. I am not saying that it won't work out, just be careful. My boss at the Cafe that I work at, her and her sister opened it 8 years ago. This past year they decided to split up and now Mary just owns it. Her and her sister don't ever talk that much anymore. It is kind of like living with your best friend. They say that you wont be best friends anymore after you live together. My sister and her best friend Katie lived together and after a couple months they could barely stand each other because my sister always cleaned the house and Katie would always just make it dirty again. In your situation you guys may not agree with everything and it could rip your bakery and friendship apart. I do wish you the best of luck and I hope everything works out for the best. It is awesome that you will have the financial part done. Also, watch your hands when you icing cakes. I had to icing cakes and my hands hurt so bad, i thought i was going to get arthritis haha. Good luck with the bakery and I will be sure to visit it!
